What To Do

Pamflete Private Beach

Pamflete beach is privately owned by The Flete Estate, accessed by all our guests and local residents who have a permit to walk the grounds.

Even at high tide there is always a bit of beach to explore and at low tide you can walk all the way along the beach to reach Coastguards and even Mothecombe beach.

This is also where Pamflete Tea house is situated above the beach (the perfect proposal spot).

Please note that for environmental and safety reasons, overnight camping, BBQs & fires on the beaches is strictly prohibited at all times.

Situated on the South West Coastal Path, Coastguards beach is open every day of the year. It is accessed via a narrow Devon country lane which some can find steep to walk back up after a day on the beach! The slipway at the bottom (with bollards) allows access for wheelchair users, horse riders, wind surfers, canoeists and surfers.

Being a tidal Estuary, there is half a mile of firm sand at low tide and a small sandy beach at high tide. At low tide, visitors can walk the full length of the beach, exploring the secluded hidden coves, rock pools and take a refreshing dip in the shallow sparkling waters that run through the centre of the Erme, down to the sea. It is also possible to cross the Estuary at low tide in ankle deep water between the two slipways. For further details, see the information boards on either slipway.

Please note that for environmental and safety reasons, overnight camping, BBQs & fires on the beaches is strictly prohibited at all times.

Coastguards Beach

On the East side of the Estuary, Wonwell Beach stretches the full length of the Erme and out to sea. Open all year round and accessed through the village of Kingston, this beautiful sandy beach is very popular with dog owners. With lots of secluded coves all surrounded by woodland, there is an old lime kiln to explore and plenty of sheltered spots to picnic, birdwatch, swim or sunbathe in the evening sun.

There is very limited parking, on the verge of a very narrow wooded lane. The lane does get very easily congested, especially at peak times.

Please note that for environmental and safety reasons, overnight camping, BBQs & fires on the beaches is strictly prohibited at all times.

Wonwell Beach

Mothecombe beach is owned and maintained by the Estate and open to the public every day of the year. It can be easily accessed from the beach car park on foot and with prams, via a gravel woodland path.

Situated at the mouth of the Estuary, Mothecombe beach is nestled in a sheltered cove, with a freshwater stream which runs gently into the sea.

At low tide, there is plenty of room for traditional beach games, picnics and sunbathing and for the more adventurous, the shallow waters are perfect for windsurfing, kitesurfing, bodyboarding and paddle boarding. This is also where the beach house is located to hire.

Please note that for environmental and safety reasons, overnight camping, BBQs & fires on the beaches is strictly prohibited at all times.
